LOCAL professional golfer David Amm has said he is looking forward to an exciting week of golf as the 2025 FBC Zimbabwe Open tees off at Royal Harare Golf Club on Thursday. Amm, returning to play on home soil after some time, is one of the local professionals hoping to fly the host nation’s flag high at the tournament.

“It’s nice to be home, I haven’t played on home territory for a while so it’s nice playing at home and I’m looking forward to a good week. It’s an honour to be here, and to be able to play in front of them and have them support us and cheering us on. “It’s not easy managing expectations but we are going to do our best. At the end of the day, all you can do is prepare and just do everything right to get ready for the event and if you take care of the preparations, that’s what you can ask for. You just have to go out there, enjoy yourself and hopefully good scores follow as well,” said Amm.

Once again, Amm, who turned professional in 2023, will be playing alongside his younger brother, Braydon, who qualified during the Pre-Qualifier held on Sunday. Braydon, remembered for breaking his brother’s record of being the youngest player to qualify for the Zimbabwe Open at the age of 14, shot one-under-par 71 to secure his place at this year’s event. Last year, the two were one of three sets of brothers who took part in the FBC Zimbabwe Open, along with fellow Zimbabweans Scott and Kieran Vincent, and the Kibugu brothers from Kenya, Mutahi and Njeroge. David is a proud brother. “He is super talented (Braydon), hits the ball a long way, has overall solid golf. He has been struggling a little bit, so it’s nice to see him put together a solid round. This tournament means a lot to every Zimbabwean, so I’m happy for him and I know he’s happy,” he said. With the Zimbabwe Open attracting large numbers of golf enthusiasts, Amm said adapting to the crowds is one way to manage the pressure that comes with them. “It’s going to get to a point where you never truly get used to it but you do get a lot more comfortable when you see that year after year, the crowds show up, and it’s truly a lot of fun. It can be intimidating but like I said, you get more comfortable with it and you must get a big adrenaline rush. It’s awesome,” said Amm, who added that he is looking forward to a great tournament. “The greens are quick, I think they are going to be firm. The fairways are good, the tees are good, the bunkers are good. The course is looking great, the forecast is looking great and I believe it’s going to be a really good week.”

The FBC Zimbabwe Open is the 2025/26 Sunshine Tour season opener and has attracted a strong field of at least 144 golfers, including 11 amateurs. The first tee is at 06:20am.
