FOLLOWING his three-shot victory at the Sunshine Tour season-opening Mediclinic Invitational at Heron Banks Golf and River Estate on Saturday, Samuel Simpson said he continues to learn and take advice from experienced professionals every day.

The victory on Saturday was Simpson’s second on the Sunshine Tour, following his breakthrough win in Zambia last year.

He finished the tournament on 19-under-par 265 after closing with a one-under-par 70. “I’m just learning every day I’m out here and taking a lot of advice from the more experienced pros. I also just slowed my walk down and I slowed my tempo down. I just believed in myself to be honest,” said Simpson (via Sunshine Tour). Having gone into the final round holding a five-shot lead, Simpson said he was happy with the way he managed himself after a difficult start to the round. “I made it hard for myself early on at the start of the round, but I’m just really happy with the way I handled myself. I didn’t take myself out of it,” he said. Simpson made a double bogey at the first hole, followed by a bogey at the third and a birdie at the fourth. He also birdied the sixth for an outward 37. After the turn, he eagled the 11th, birdied the 13th and dropped a shot at the 14th for an inward 33. Simon du Plooy and Austin Bautista shared second place on 16-under-par 268. For his win, Simpson earned 380.40 Order of Merit points.

The next event on the Sunshine Tour is the FBC Zimbabwe Open, scheduled to take place at Royal Harare Golf Club from 7–10 May.
