A FORMIDABLE home challenge will take centre stage at this year’s FBC Zimbabwe Open, with a 24-strong contingent of local professionals set to tee off at Royal Harare Golf Club starting on Thursday.
Vincent missed last year’s tournament. A total of 24 Zimbabwean professionals are in the field for the country’s premier golf tournament, which is also a key event on the Sunshine Tour calendar. The event presents a valuable opportunity for local players to test themselves against a competitive international field on home soil. Among those to watch is Robson Chinhoi, who returns looking to build on a standout performance from last year’s edition, where he secured a career best tie for seventh-place finish. Chinhoi was one of the highlights for the home contingent in 2025 and with that experience behind him, he comes into this year’s tournament with renewed confidence and belief. Nyasha Muyambo, Visitor Mapwanya, Stuart Krog, Shaahid Mahmed, Ryan Cairns and Tonderai Masunga, all of whom made the cut at last year’s event, are also part of the field this week. Darlington Chikanyambidze and Michael Wallace, who recently turned professional, will be making their Zimbabwe Open debuts as professionals. The rest of the local professionals in the field are Tafadzwa Nyamukondiwa, Promise Sombreiro, Bradley Kulaisi, Clive Nguru, Ignatius Mketekete, Jack Allard, Liberty Gumisa, Anyway Katembenuka, Davison Elijah, Akil Yousuf, Biggie Chibvuri, David Amm and Simon Murungweni. In addition to the 24 professionals, Zimbabwe will also be represented by six amateurs. The amateur contingent comprises Shepherd Chiwaya, Tawana Mangoma, Thomas Sinclair, Blessing Gondo, Tariro November and Braydon Amm. Amm qualified via the pre-qualifier, marking his fifth consecutive appearance at the Zimbabwe Open. He first qualified in 2022 at the age of 14, becoming the youngest player ever to do so. Meanwhile, the course handover ceremony was conducted on Monday, with the Royal Harare Golf Club captain Mafi Nyamwanza officially handing over the course to FBC Zimbabwe Open Committee chairperson Livingston Gwata.
Also in attendance were representatives of title sponsors FBC Holdings, including chief executive officer Trynos Kufazvinei, associate sponsors, Sunshine Tour tournament director Garry Todd, tournament director Mike Mahachi and Zimbabwe Golf Association president Blessmore Gandawa.
