FOR the second consecutive year, Dayne Moore emerged as the top-performing local golfer at the Zambia Open Championship, securing a top-20 finish at this year’s edition held at Nkana Golf Club in Kitwe, Zambia.

Moore, who was runner-up at last year’s tournament, finished tied for 20th position at the 2025 Mopani Zambia Open, which concluded on Sunday. He was one of only three Zambian golfers to make the cut at the fifth event of the Sunshine Tour season.

He completed the tournament with a score of three-under-par 285, sharing 20th place with Mathew Spacey (South Africa), Kyle De Beer (South Africa), Simon Du Plooy (South Africa), Fredrik From (Sweden), Ryan van der Klis (South Africa), Ruan Korb (South Africa), and Robson Chinhoi (Zimbabwe). Moore opened the championship with an even-par 72, followed by a one-under-par 71 in the second round, securing his place for the final two days of Zambia’s prestigious tournament. In the third round, he carded another level-par 72 before closing with a two-under-par 70. Reflecting on his performance, Moore said his game has improved significantly compared to last year. “Last year I played really well, but if I compare it to this year, I feel like I’m in a better space and more content with my golf at the moment. Last year was a flash in the pan, but I’ve improved, and that’s how golf is, sometimes the results don’t go your way, but I’ll keep pressing on. I’m trying to get better every day,” he said.

The other Zambian players who made the cut were Aaron Simfukwe Jnr and amateur Michael Chuma. Simfukwe tied for 45th place on two-over-par 290 with round scores of 70, 71, 75, and 74. Chuma finished tied for 63rd on 10-over-par 298, recording rounds of 76, 70, 75, and 77. South Africa’s Samuel Simpson clinched his maiden Sunshine Tour title with a one-stroke victory over Herman Loubser to win the 2025 Mopani Zambia Open.
