AN opening round of two-under-par 70 saw Nathaniel Zidya take the lead after the first round of the Zimbabwe Amateur at Chapman Golf Club in Harare.

Zidya holds a one-shot advantage over Stalian Daka and Braydon Amm, who both opened with one-under-par 71s.

The Zimbabwean youngster produced a near-flawless round, dropping just a single shot.

On his front nine, Zidya birdied the fifth before bogeying the sixth. He responded with another birdie at the ninth and, after the turn, enjoyed a blemish-free back nine, picking up his only birdie of the inward half at the 15th.

Second-placed Daka and Amm both carded four birdies and three bogeys in their opening rounds.

Tariro November, Unathi Donga and Nathan Van Rooyen share fourth place on one-over-par 73.

The Zimbabwe Amateur teed off on Friday, with the winner earning a direct ticket to the 2027 Zimbabwe Open.
