IN a groundbreaking achievement, Mexican golfer Luis Carrera has etched his name into the history books by becoming the first non-South African golfer to win the Zimbabwe Open in 24 years following his victory at the 2025. Held at the prestigious Royal Harare Golf Club, the tournament has long been dominated by South African players with the last Zimbabwean to win it being Mark McNulty in 2000.
“I would really like thank the Sunshine Tour because now I'm part of it, I love it. I would also like to thank the Zimbabwe Open team, the staff, and the green keepers, the course was magnificent. All the spectators and supporters, that was the best, I appreciate everyone who supported me and they were all loud on the golf course every time I made a putt or a birdie or a tee shot, that was great. I love the great attitude from the whole crowd and especially how loud they were here, so amazing gave me an excellent pump,” said Carrera.
