A flawless five-under-par 65 propelled Samuel Simpson to a one-stroke victory at the SunBet Challenge hosted by Sun Sibiya at The Woods at Mount Edgecombe on Friday.
Simpson finished the tournament on 13-under-par 197 to be crowned champion.
Having opened with rounds of 65 and 67, Simpson went into the final round tied for fourth, two shots behind leader Graham van der Merwe.
He made an impressive start to the final round, carding back-to-back birdies on the first and second holes before adding another on the eighth to make the turn in 31. After the turn, he picked up two more birdies on the 10th and 16th to complete a 34 on the back nine.
Van der Merwe, Pieter Moolman and Rowan Lester shared second place on 12-under-par 198.
Nikhil Rama finished fifth on 11-under-par 199, while Jason Roets and Austin Bautista shared sixth place on 10-under-par 200.
Benjamin van Wyk, JJ Senekal, Haydn Porteous, Kyle De Beer and Jonathan Broomhead finished tied for eighth on nine-under-par 201.
For his victory, Simpson earned 380.40 Order of Merit points.
